Are there any requirements I need to fulfill to become a DIY Famine Camp Leader?
We’re counting on you to take the Famine to your campus, neighbourhood, friends, religious group or workplace. You need to be someone who is committed to the cause, loves to rally people together, and will work hard to make it all happen! We would suggest a minimum age of 18 years old. However, if you are below 18 and already have loads of leadership experience - sign up and we will consider! Besides, that you must also have access to the internet, and attend a compulsory Camp Leader Training Workshop (Free!) top

How do I run my own DIY Famine Camp?
World Vision will be organising a Camp Leaders' Training Workshop to train and equip leaders. You will be given a Famine pack with ideas and guidelines on running a DIY Camp.top

What happens at the Leaders Training Workshop?
You will be trained on:
- Camper Recruitment
- Fundraising
- Camp Management
- Public speaking basics
- Event management basics
- Team building basics
- Camp Leaders' Responsibilities - ie. Distribution and collection of fundraising coupon booklets, and record keeping

The lessons you learn and the experience you gain will serve you well, long after the camp is over! top

How do I sign-up?
Please click here. top

Who do I recruit?
It’s entirely up to you - your friends, club members, classmates, neighbours, colleagues, relatives, anyone whom you think may be interested. top

Is there an age limit for campers?
The Famine materials were designed with teenagers and working adults in mind. Children below 12 may need additional guidance. top

How many campers do I need to recruit?
The sky’s the limit! Minimum number of campers per group is 10. top

How do I raise funds?
At the Camp Leaders' Training Workshop, you will receive coupon booklets that you can distribute to your group members.

It is best if you set a goal for your group (eg. We’re going to raise RM100 each!), and motivate them to achieve the target.

Coupon booklets and funds from your campers have to be returned to you by 25 July 2009. You need to return them, together with proper records, to World Vision Malaysia before 31 Jul 2009. top

What is a coupon booklet? What happened to donation cards?
Like donation cards, the coupons can be used to raise funds. The only difference is that now your campers will be able to issue receipts to donors directly. We hope this will improve accountability to donors. Please remind your campers that they can only ask for donations from friends and family. Door-to-door or public solicitation is not permitted. top

Is there a minimum amount that we need to raise?
Our goal is to raise RM1.1 million. Our target, therefore, is for each student participant to raise at least RM80 and each working adult RM120. top

What if we are unable to hold our DIY Famine Camp on 22nd August 2009?
The official Famine weekend is from 22nd to 23rd August 2009. We encourage campers to fast from 12pm on Saturday, 22nd August so that we can all break fast at 6pm the following day (at the Famine Countdown event).

If you are unable to hold it on 22nd August, you can choose to hold your DIY Camp any time BEFORE the official Famine weekend.top

How long should DIY Famine Camps last?
They should last a minimum of 24 hours. The last 6 hours of your Famine experience will be spent together with everyone who has participated at the Famine Countdown event on Sunday, 23rd August.

However, if your DIY Camp is before the Famine weekend, you may want to challenge your campers to do the full 30 hours and then come for the Countdown. top

What happens at the Famine Countdown event?
The Famine Countdown event will be on the 23rd of August 2009 (Sun), from 12pm to 6pm.

Together, we will count down the last 6 hours of the Famine, reflecting on what we have learned, sharing our experiences and enjoying a star-studded celebrity showcase. top

Will T-shirts and break fast meals be provided?
T-shirts will not be provided. Given the current economic climate and its impact on the poor, World Vision has decided to channel the funds saved from t-shirt printing towards helping an even greater number of people in need. Camp Leaders are advised to source for your own break fast meals. World Vision will provide break fast drinks for those who attend the Famine Countdown event. top

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. You will also be responsible for distributing certificates to your campers.top
